Landscaping Design in Havertown, PA
Havertown, Pennsylvania may be small, but the township is large in heart and historic value. The Haverford Township, where this unincorporated community is located, was first founded in 1681 by Welsh Quakers on land bought from William Penn. One of the first of Philadelphia’s suburban communities the area is home to many gorgeous historic sites and homes surrounded by the beautiful landscaping design in Havertown.
In fact, Havertown has remained so well maintained that its far northern border of Haverford Road remains largely as when first laid out by civil ordinance in 1687. Today, however, most of the big shops of Haverford abut the popular West Chester Pike on the southern end of this unincorporated community. Haverford organizations like the esteemed Llanerch Country Club with its well-manicured and well-maintained landscaping design also lie along the bustling West Chester Pike.
The Llanerch Country Club takes its name from the Llanerch community, one of the oldest planned communities in the country. This community has a great history that includes a commercial competition known as “The Battle of Llanerch Crossing” between two rail lines that each wanted to secure their railroad position for the town in order to capitalize off of commuters and business transports to and from Philadelphia. Today, visitors can go on tours of some of the most historic of the planned community homes which include outstanding examples of architecture completed near the turn of the century with fantastic landscaping design features.
In addition to gorgeous homes and landscaping design, Havertown is renowned for its outstanding green spaces. The community is home to more than 30 outdoor parks, playgrounds, and playing fields as well as the unique Haverford Township Free Library and the Haverford Township Skatium, which is an ice skating rink.
The multi-use Pennsy Trail also runs through Havertown’s prestigious neighborhoods and offers residents and visitors a safe and beautiful place to jog, walk, and bike. This trail is just over a mile long and a portion was recently updated to a macadam surface, making the trail a bit more bike-friendly. The township and county are considering adding a connecting bridge over Manoa Road to improve its usability.
